Surgery

The day of surgery

You will have to arrive early on the day of surgery. The nurses will admit you to the surgical ward and prepare you for your operation. You will also see the surgeon and the anaesthetist before you go the operating room.

After your operation you will wake up in the recovery room where you will stay approximately half an hour.

As you recover you are moved to your room on the surgical ward, where nurses and doctors closely monitor your recovery.

Special leg stockings will help improve your blood flow and you will be asked to walk as soon as you can. A physiotherapist will help you with breathing exercises.

The dietician will visit you and help you with your diet.

Your team will tell you when you are ready to go home. Gastric band patients can go home on the first day after surgery. Patients who had a more invasive operation go home on the second or third day after surgery.
